The Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity House was a significant project, in that it embodied Austin Canyon Corporation’s commitment and ability to work on a Team Basis with Architects, their Consultants, Owner Representatives and the Subcontractor Team to deliver an exceptional structure. Constructing a building of this stature in the ever-changing University of Texas neighborhood environment comes with its own set of distinctive obstacles. Some constraints of this project included working through design and budget challenges, along with Neighborhood and City Zoning, Permitting and Ordinance issues.
One unique aspect of the project was that it included the remodeling of an existing townhouse along with construction of a new facility. The two elements were then connected by a raised sport deck and courtyard plaza. Construction included the excavation and exterior wall retention system, which was integrated into the overall building composition for below grade parking with cast-in-place concrete and steel for the upper floors. The exterior envelope is comprised of structural steel, metal framing with cut Limestone veneer, storefront and curtainwall systems to match the Architectural vocabulary of the existing building.

This project was originally intended to be an expansion of the existing main sanctuary, but Fire Code requirements ‘forced’ the design to be tastefully modified to become two buildings. To adapt, the two structures became separate, and instead were connected by a bridging, breezeway element with IPE wood ceilings and aluminum metal siding. A combination of structural steel with masonry and plaster veneer, hollow metal, storefront exterior window systems, this two-story building houses 22 classrooms, two auditorium style worship rooms and an interior playground. The project received a 2008 Outstanding Construction Award from the Association of General Contractors and is an excellent example of Austin Canyon Corporation’s successful team-based service delivery.[/cs_text]

The goal of this exterior and interior remodel with finish-out was to turn an old, outdated building into a brand new eye clinic. The project incorporated natural wood, cut limestone walls, custom free-formed millwork, floor to ceiling glass panels and terrazzo flooring to provide a timeless, elegant appearance. A unique portion of the project included exterior modifications to refashion a rather plain, non-descript building. Comprised of structural steel and light gauge metal framing, this uniquely designed credit union included a creative combination of materials including limestone veneer longboard, wood grained metal siding, metal shingle style paneling and aluminum storefront window systems. The building was intended to compliment the architectural vocabulary of new and existing buildings, while still standing out in its surroundings. The project’s materials, size and colorful surroundings contribute to the architectural success, and it will be submitted for design and construction awards toward the end of 2017.

This sizeable, two story medical clinic was designed and built to support the booming population in the Cedar Park area by centralizing ARC’s existing clinics. The stand-alone clinic contains 52 exam rooms, 2 procedure rooms and a lab.
It is comprised of a structural slab on grade with structural steel and ICF wall system interspersed with storefront assemblies. One goal for this project was to incorporate green, more energy efficient materials, including an innovative wall system manufactured by local business, Bautex Systems, Inc. We are proud to say that this project received a 2016 Outstanding Construction Award from the Association of General Contractors.

Austin Canyon Corporation
As President and Chief Operating Officer of Austin Canyon Corporation, Mike Nazar brings a unique combination of talents and perspectives to his work as a general contractor. He is a professionally trained and licensed architect who “fell in love with the dynamics of construction”.
Mike founded the company on June 6, 1986 providing interior build-out services, and gradually expanded his operation to a full service general contracting and construction management firm. With more than 30 years of experience in the construction industry, he has successfully managed an array of projects including educational facilities, churches, financial institutions, office buildings, medical offices and specialty projects.
Prior to founding Austin Canyon Corporation Mike worked with J.C. Evans Construction Company and Austin developer, Larry Peel. He received his Bachelor of Architecture degree from The University of Texas in 1976 and became a licensed architect in 1982. He is a member of the Austin Chapter of Associated General Contractors, the American Institute of Architects and the Austin Chamber of Commerce.
Mike has made it a priority to give back to the community whenever possible, donating to many great causes over the years. His involvement includes past participation on the Board of Directors for the Northwest Little League, Northwest Little League Commissioner, baseball and football coach for Northwest Little League and West Austin Youth Associations, volunteer for the Sunshine Camp for Kids, and serving as a member of the Campus Advisory Councils for Highland Park Elementary and Lamar Middle Schools. Most recently, Austin Canyon Corporation has become a sponsor of The Women’s Storybook Project.
Mike spends his personal time enjoying the company of Sue, his wife of 42 years, their family of three children, teaching and training in the Martial Arts, supporting U.T. football and basketball programs, and traveling whenever possible.
